Kashmiri actress Zaira Wasim shot to fame with 2016's biggest Bollywood movie, Dangal. Winning the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, Zaira played the younger self of Geeta Phogat in the sports biographical drama, cast alongside Aamir Khan. After the commercial and critical success of Dangal, Zaira went on to collaborate yet again with Aamir Khan for Secret Superstar, where she plays the role of a Muslim girl who aspires to become a musician despite the opposition she faces from her conservative father.
At the 64th National Film Awards, Wasim added another feather to her hat by winning the Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Geeta's younger self.
Dangal' girl Zaira Wasim who played the younger Geeta Phogat in the Aamir Khan blockbuster, has posted an open letter on her Facebook page, which she later deleted. The 16-year-old, who hails from Srinagar, posted a note on her social networking handles to post an apology, asking Kashmiri youth not to follow in her footsteps or even consider her as their role model.
In her letter, Zahira asks for an apology saying, 'I know that many people have been offended and displeased by my recent actions or by the people I have recently met. I want to apologise to all those people who I've unintentionally hurt and I want them to know that I understand their sentiments'
